Team Falcons Become the First Esports World Cup Champions

19 August 2024

Saudi Arabia’s team, the Falcons, has just made history by becoming the first Esports World Cup champions, securing the title and a $7 million prize.

The Esports action isn’t over yet, with the grand finals of StarCraft II, EA Sports FC 24, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III still to come. The closing ceremony will take place on Sunday, August 25, at the SEF Arena in Riyadh.

Team Falcons currently hold a commanding lead with 4,160 points. The Netherlands’ Team Liquid, who were in second place and the closest to challenging the Falcons, didn’t qualify for next week’s Tekken 8 tournament. Meanwhile, the French club Team Vitality dropped out of the running after bowing out of StarCraft II.

Although both teams still had a chance to claim the title, it’s now almost certain that Team Falcons will take the win. They will be crowned in Riyadh on Sunday, making this victory even more special as a home win.

Let’s go, Falcons!
