NEOM: The Future Wonder of Saudi Arabia

29 July 2024

NEOM is set to redefine the future of living and tourism in Saudi Arabia with its ambitious $500 billion project, designed to blend sustainable living, innovative technology, and luxury tourism. Funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which oversees assets worth $800 billion, NEOM aims to create a futuristic urban oasis on the Red Sea coast in the northwest Tabuk Province.

The name NEOM merges two distinct elements: “Neo,” derived from the ancient Greek word for “New,” and “M,” which comes from the Arabic word “Mustaqbal,” meaning “Future.” This combination reflects NEOM’s vision of pioneering a new era in urban living.

Guided by His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and Chairperson of the NEOM Company, the project promises an exceptional blend of sun-drenched beaches and snow-capped mountains, all while preserving 95% of its natural landscape. The development stretches across an impressive 468 kilometers of pristine Red Sea coastline.

Strategically positioned, NEOM is a hub for global trade, with approximately one-tenth of international trade passing through the Red Sea. Its location makes it accessible to nearly 40% of the world’s population within a four-hour flight, enhancing its appeal as both a tourist destination and a business opportunity.

NEOM’s ambitious plans include several transformative mega-projects. TROJENA, a mountain destination, redefines the concept of a year-round resort with winter snow and cooler summers. Located 50 kilometers from the Gulf of Aqaba, TROJENA covers 60 square kilometers and will feature a ski village, sports facilities, and an artificial freshwater lake, offering a range of recreational activities.

THE LINE, another key component of NEOM, is envisioned as a vertical city stretching 170 kilometers and rising 500 meters high. Designed to accommodate around nine million residents, THE LINE aims to be the world’s first zero-carbon city, utilizing renewable energy and advanced technologies to minimize its environmental footprint. Its unique vertical design facilitates efficient travel between different “modules” or communities, setting a new standard for urban living.

OXAGON, a center for advanced and clean industries, represents NEOM’s commitment to integrating technology with environmental stewardship. As the world’s largest floating structure, OXAGON is set to accommodate 90,000 residents and generate 70,000 jobs by 2030, facilitating 13% of global trade through the Suez Canal.

Sindalah, NEOM’s first physical manifestation, promises to redefine luxury tourism. This island destination features 51 luxury retail outlets, upscale hotels, and a substantial marina designed for the world’s most spectacular yachts. Sindalah aims to become a premier yachting hub, supported by partnerships with JLS Yachts, MB92 group, and BURGESS, and will include a high-end nine-hole beachfront golf course.

Leyja, another integral part of NEOM, offers a unique blend of nature and luxury. This eco-tourism destination will feature three distinct hotels—The Adventure Hotel, The Oasis Hotel, and The Wellness Hotel—each catering to different types of travelers and blending seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.

NEOM Epicon, a luxurious hotel, resort, and residential destination, will offer unparalleled views of the Gulf of Aqaba. Its two towering structures will house a premium hotel and upscale residences, while the resort features 120 rooms and 45 beach villas, providing a tranquil escape amidst stunning surroundings.

Siranna is set to revolutionize luxury hospitality with its hexagonal pillars and tiered design, offering uninterrupted views of the Red Sea. Designed by Woods Bagot, Siranna will feature 65 rooms and 35 exclusive residences, merging natural beauty with architectural brilliance.

UTAMO, an immersive art and entertainment destination, combines cutting-edge technology with natural beauty. Located along the Gulf of Aqaba, it will host global artists and events in a grand hall accessible via a floating marina.

NORLANA, a waterfront destination, will feature an ultra-premium hotel, luxurious residences, a superyacht marina, and an 18-hole golf course. With a focus on sports and sustainability, NORLANA aims to offer a thrilling escape aligned with NEOM’s vision.

Aquellum, integrated within a 450-meter mountain, offers a luxury experience with a floating marina, sumptuous hotels, and premier shopping and dining options. Its unique design provides an extraordinary visitor experience.

Zardun, an exclusive eco-resort, features four luxury buildings and boutique hotels, offering activities such as trekking and mountain biking. The resort emphasizes tranquility and luxury, blending seamlessly with its natural surroundings.

Xaynor, a private members-only club, provides unmatched luxury with private pools, beach loungers, and exclusive amenities. Its design reflects architectural genius, combining open spaces with hidden retreats.

Elanan, a private health resort, merges contemporary technology with wellness in a minimalist setting, offering relaxation and unique dining experiences.

Gidori, a golf destination, features innovative architecture and a championship 18-hole course. The resort’s cantilevered design and luxurious amenities make it a golfer’s dream.

Treyam, a top-tier harbor enclave, includes the globe’s longest sky pool and a lavish 250-room hotel resort. Its design promises unparalleled luxury and environmental consciousness, with a range of activities for visitors.

NEOM’s development is a testament to Saudi Arabia’s vision for the future, blending luxury, sustainability, and innovation to create an unparalleled destination.
